The Technopolis Development Authority (formerly Konza Technopolis Development Authority) has graduated 2,700 young people who completed a five-day hybrid training programme under the Jitume Digital Media Tools Sensitization Workshop, equipping them with practical digital and creative skills.

The programme attracted nearly 3,000 registrations from across the country and introduced participants to careers in photography, videography, graphic design, video editing and social media management.

Participants also gained exposure to industry practices, Artificial Intelligence-enabled solutions, entrepreneurship opportunities and the practical skills required to build careers in Kenya’s growing digital and creative economy.

The training was held at the Jitume Digital Media Factory at GPO Nairobi and was delivered in partnership with the Kenya Film Commission, Postal Kenya and Genesis Design Factory.

According to the Authority, the programme was designed to go beyond conventional technical training by helping participants understand the wider career opportunities available within the creative sector and the practical realities of building sustainable careers.

The graduation and recognition ceremony brought together outstanding participants alongside representatives from government, industry, academia, technology institutions, development partners and the media.

The event also provided an opportunity to showcase participants’ work, celebrate their achievements and strengthen connections between emerging creatives and industry players.

Speaking during the graduation ceremony, Technopolis Development Authority Chief Executive Officer John Paul Okwiri said the programme reflects the growing demand for digital and creative skills among young people.

“This graduation is a testament to the ever-growing creative industry in our country. We had a total number of nearly 3,000 participants signing up for this workshop, which showcases the hunger for young creatives to nurture and further their skills while highlighting the need for more cohorts to be conducted across the country. We have seen young videographers, photographers, graphic designers, social media managers and content developers and editors take the initiative to gather here, network and grow their skills in order to ultimately raise the standard within the creative space. It is therefore extremely important to continue supporting them through workshops like this to ensure we grow the sector.”

Activities during the ceremony included exhibitions of participants’ work, presentations highlighting the programme’s impact, discussions on the future of creative work in Kenya, recognition of outstanding participants and networking sessions.

Among the outcomes highlighted by the Authority were increased awareness of careers in the creative industry, stronger links between young people and industry professionals, a better understanding of the role of Artificial Intelligence in creative work, and greater awareness of opportunities in employment, freelancing and entrepreneurship.

The Authority said the programme supports wider efforts to expand digital inclusion, encourage innovation and create more opportunities for young people.

The Jitume Digital Enablement Programme is a Government of Kenya initiative that seeks to expand access to digital opportunities by equipping young people with market-relevant digital skills, innovation capabilities and pathways to employment and entrepreneurship.

Through its network of digital hubs and specialised learning facilities, the programme supports the development of a digitally skilled workforce while promoting inclusion, creativity and participation in Kenya’s growing digital economy.
