The Kenyan government has welcomed the rollout of a new fleet of modern and fully compliant fuel tankers by TotalEnergies Marketing Kenya and its transport partners, describing the investment as a step towards improving safety in petroleum transportation.

Speaking during the unveiling, Energy Principal Secretary Kello Harsama said the new fleet reflects the progress made through collaboration between the government, industry players and transporters to strengthen safety standards across the petroleum supply chain.

According to Harsama, ongoing reforms in the petroleum transport sector, including the review of the Cost of Supply and Operations of Petroleum Products (COSSOP) and the recognition of compliant transport costs by the Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA), have encouraged investment in safer and more efficient transport equipment.

“This achievement is a testament to what can be accomplished when Government, industry players, and transporters work together towards a common goal,” said Harsama.

He commended TotalEnergies Marketing Kenya and its transport partners for investing in modern fuel transport infrastructure, saying the move will improve road safety, strengthen regulatory compliance and enhance the reliability of fuel distribution across the country.

Harsama noted that the safe transportation of petroleum products remains a national priority because of its role in protecting lives, safeguarding the environment and ensuring a reliable energy supply.

“Safe petroleum transportation is not just an industry requirement it is a national responsibility. It helps protect lives, safeguard the environment, and ensure the uninterrupted energy supply that powers our economy,” he said.

The Principal Secretary also recognised efforts to improve driver competence through initiatives such as the Perfect Driver Program, noting that modern transport equipment delivers better results when handled by well-trained and responsible drivers.

He said the government will continue working closely with industry stakeholders to improve safety standards across the energy sector as part of broader efforts to build a safer, more efficient and sustainable petroleum transport system.
