Safaricom PLC and Opportunity International have partnered to launch FarmerAI, an innovative AI chatbot aimed at supporting smallholder farmers in Kenya with real-time agricultural advice.
The pilot, running through August, will enroll 800–1,000 potato farmers across key regions.

FarmerAI provides crucial insights on weather, pest management, fertilizer use, and market prices through accessible channels like SMS and WhatsApp.
Unlike traditional methods, the chatbot eliminates the need for field agents, directly connecting farmers to vital information via Safaricom’s DigiFarm service.

The pilot Is part of a broader effort to improve food security, increase farmer incomes, and strengthen Kenya’s agricultural sector through digital innovation.
