The Ethiopian Federal Police has established a new forensic science scholarship programme in honour of IGAD Executive Secretary Dr. Workneh Gebeyehu, recognising his contribution to public service, regional integration and law enforcement.

The scholarship, announced on July 9, will be offered at the Crime Investigation Academy of the Ethiopian Police University (EPU) in Sandafa, Ethiopia.

According to Ethiopian Federal Police the programme has been created to recognise Dr. Workneh Gebeyehu exemplary leadership, dedicated service, and significant contributions to the Ethiopian Federal Police (EFP), public service of Ethiopia, and his relentless commitment to regional integration to the IGAD region

The scholarship will support students from across the IGAD region who are pursuing careers in law enforcement, with a focus on forensic science.

In a statement, the Ethiopian Federal Police said the initiative aims to support the academic and professional development of outstanding individuals from within the IGAD region who are committed to pursuing careers in law enforcement while cultivating future leaders who exemplify the values of public service, perseverance, and innovation

The institution noted that the program reaffirms the EFP’s recognition to the Indelible legacy of H.E. Dr Workneh Gebeyehu to the Ethiopian Federal Police and to his relentless service to the IGAD region and his commitment to regional integration.

This program will be delivered by Ethiopian Police University in which select beneficiaries will undergo forensics studies at the Crime Investigation Academy.

Apart from the benefits accruing to the student-beneficiaries, Ethiopian Federal Police noted that the scholarship would go further in helping to develop future leaders in the area of policing who will positively contribute to criminal investigations in the region.

It was also noted by the police that this program will serve as a legacy for Dr. Gebeyehu and his continuous contribution towards the integration of public service in the IGAD region.
