KSh6.7 Million Boost for Kenyan Grassroots Football as betPawa Supports 25 Teams

betPawa has invested KSh6.7 million in a grassroots football development programme that will support 25 teams and benefit at least 575 players across Kenya.

The betting firm has distributed full playing kits and training equipment to men’s and women’s teams in different parts of the country as part of efforts to support community football and improve access to basic sports equipment.

Each player will receive a complete kit consisting of jerseys, shorts, and socks. The teams have also been given match balls, training bibs, and goalkeeper gloves to help improve training sessions and match preparation.

In total, the company distributed 100 match balls, 575 training bibs, and 75 pairs of goalkeeper gloves.

Some of the beneficiary teams include Masimba Queens, Kibagare Girls FC, Maungu All Stars FC, Shimanzi FC, Falcon Queens, Kangeta Youth FC, Majengo FC, and Atletico Kangemi SC.

The support comes at a time when many local football teams continue to struggle with limited resources, often depending on community fundraising and well-wishers to buy kits and training equipment.

Without proper gear, many teams face challenges during training and competitions, affecting player development and overall performance.

Borah Ndanyungu, Head of Local Marketing and Corporate Social Responsibility at betPawa Kenya, said the initiative is aimed at helping young players access better opportunities through sport.

“Talent is everywhere in Kenya. You see it in community fields and local leagues where players continue to show commitment despite having very little support,” Ndanyungu said.

He added that access to proper equipment can improve confidence, organisation, and professionalism within teams.

The initiative also places strong focus on women’s football, with several women’s teams among the beneficiaries. betPawa says the move is part of its wider effort to promote equal opportunities in sports development.

The company had in the past sponsored sports activities in Africa through schemes like Locker Room Bonus where both male and female teams get an equivalent bonus amount following their victories.

With the growing trend of corporate entities using grassroots sports in their community investment schemes, there is an increase in the level of support that goes to local football teams beyond just the top leagues.

Many times, support from such corporates plays a very important role for small teams in alleviating financial burden enabling them to concentrate on practice and matches.
