Bare Sahara Ahmed was on Monday presented at the Kahawa Law Courts, where detectives were granted 10 days to hold her as investigations continue into alleged hate speech and ethnic incitement linked to a viral video.
In a statement, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) said the Chief Magistrate’s Court approved the request, ordering that Ahmed be held at Kilimani Police Station while inquiries go on.
Investigators have been allowed to carry out forensic analysis on digital evidence, including phone records and financial transactions, as they try to establish the full extent of the alleged offences. The probe is also focusing on how the video was created and shared.
In a separate statement, the National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) criticised the remarks linked to Ahmed, saying freedom of expression should not be used to spread hate or incite violence.
The commission called on Kenyans to stay calm, avoid sharing unverified information, and respect each other’s rights. It also said the arrest was done in collaboration with security agencies and assured that the matter will follow due legal process.
The case now remains under investigation as authorities continue to review the content and its circulation.
