The government has announced that business owners will no longer receive physical business registration certificates after registering their firms, as the services have been fully integrated into the digital platform.
In its clarification, Huduma Kenya explained that the Business Registration Service (BRS), under the new upgrade, now provides business registration certificates in the digital format. Once the business registration process is complete, the certificate will be sent to the business owner’s email and can also be downloaded from the BRS section on the eCitizen portal.
This clarification has been made in response to online concerns from Kenyans on the issue, with many asking whether the physical certificate had been abolished entirely.
The new BRS Version II has been designed to make the process easier for business owners, who can access their documents and update their company information without the need to visit the Huduma Centres.
Business owners can access the new service by logging into their eCitizen account, accessing the BRS section, and then downloading the approved certificate or checking their email for the official certificate from the Business Registration Service.
In addition, the new platform, which was launched this week, has also made it possible for business owners to update their company information online, including updates on the company structure, appointment of directors, share transfers, and all business-related modifications.
To access the service, business owners can log in to the eCitizen portal using their credentials or one-time password, access the dashboard, and then access the company profile to update the company information.
According to the new system, business owners will receive digital certificates, which will reduce delays and paperwork, and will be easier for the government and business owners to keep records.
The new system has been made possible by the ongoing digitization of services to ensure that it becomes easier for Kenyans to access government services without the need to travel or queue.
