Safaricom Half-Year Profit Surges 52% as Telco Deepens Community Investments in Kenya and Ethiopia
Safaricom has posted a strong half-year performance, recording a 52.1 per cent jump in group net income to KSh42.8 billion for the period ending September 30, 2025 a sign of renewed momentum across its Kenya and Ethiopia markets.
The telco’s Kenya business led the way, posting a 22.6 per cent rise in net income to KSh58.2 billion, supported by a 9.3 per cent growth in service revenue to KSh194 billion and a 13.1 per cent increase in earnings before interest and tax (EBIT) to KSh89.5 billion.
In Ethiopia, where Safaricom is still scaling operations, losses dropped by 20.1 per cent to KSh15.5 billion, even as pricing and currency reforms continue to pose challenges.
“This is a strong set of results and a solid start to our Vision 2030 strategy cycle,” said Safaricom Group CEO Peter Ndegwa. “We remain focused on executing our plans through integrated solutions and customer-led innovation.”

Beyond its financial results, Safaricom has ramped up investment in social programmes.
The company recently unveiled the Citizens of the Future initiative, which aims to transform over 500 schools across Kenya through infrastructure improvements, 10,000 scholarships, and digital literacy training for more than 56,000 learners over the next five years.
“It has been 25 years of transforming lives through innovation and empowerment. We remain anchored in purpose, driving sustainable growth and positive change,” Ndegwa added.
Safaricom also expanded its community footprint in Ethiopia with the launch of the Safaricom Ethiopia Foundation in July.
The foundation has committed over ETB 650 million to education, youth and economic empowerment projects underscoring the company’s long-term goal of delivering “purpose before profit.”
Over the past 25 years, Safaricom and the M-PESA Foundation have supported more than 22 million Kenyans through programmes in health, education, economic empowerment and environmental conservation.
