Kenya Commercial Bank (KCB) has stepped up its support for local sports with an KCB athletics sponsorship worth KShs. 8 million, aimed at powering key events in the national athletics calendar.

The sponsorship will support the Kenya National Athletics Championships and the World Athletics Championships trials.

Announced in Nairobi, the funding will help Athletics Kenya organize the upcoming National Championships set for June 25–27 at Nyayo Stadium, and the World Championships trials scheduled for August 1–2, 2025. Each event will receive KShs. 4 million from the sponsorship.

Speaking at the sponsorship unveiling ceremony held in Nairobi, KCB Foundation Director Mendi Njonjo said: “Today’s sponsorship reflects our deep belief in two things. First, in the extraordinary talent of Kenyan athletes who consistently prove themselves as world beaters, and second, in the robust systems that identify and nurture this talent.”

“Our partnership with Athletics Kenya (AK) is about the power of sport to unite our national spirit and ignite the dreams of millions of young Kenyans who intend to pursue their sporting ambitions,” she added.

Competitors for the National Championships will fight for medals, team prizes, and monetary rewards, and for the August trials to determine who representsKenya in the 2025 World Championships in Tokyo, an event that is expected to bring over 2,000 competitors from over 200 countries.

Athletics Kenya President Lt. Gen. (Rtd) Jackson Tuwei stated that he was satisfied with the sponsorship as it is both timely and strategic.

“In my years at the helm of Kenyan athletics, I have seen how strategic partnerships like this one with KCB create champions. This KShs. 8 million injection comes at a critical juncture as we prepare our athletes for Tokyo 2025.”

“More than financial support, it represents the stability and belief we need to maintain our edge in global competitions while developing the next generation of champions.” he added

KCB sponsorship goes far beyond the racing. Over the last 20 years, the bank has spent KShs. 3 billion on sporting developmental in Kenya football, rugby, motorsport, volleyball, and chess at its broader mission to transform lives and strengthen communities.
