The Kenya Bureau of Standards (KEBS) and the Energy & Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA) have reaffirmed that Super fuel, including Shell’s V-POWER, meets the required Research Octane Number (RON) ratings as per Kenyan standards.
In a joint statement, the regulators confirmed that tests conducted on fuel samples from various petrol stations nationwide including Shell outlets showed compliance with the required RON levels.
The tested samples recorded RON values of 96.1, 95.9, 96.0, and 95.9, dispelling recent online reports that questioned fuel quality.
This revelation comes as a relief for Vivo Energy Kenya, the country’s leading oil marketer and distributor of Shell products, which had been at the center of consumer concerns.
KEBS and EPRA have also cautioned Kenyans against relying on uncalibrated equipment for fuel testing, urging consumers to trust results from accredited laboratories.
The clarification aims to restore public confidence in the quality of fuel available in the country, ensuring motorists get the performance and efficiency expected from premium fuels.
