The Standard Chartered Nairobi Marathon 2025 is not just about speed and endurance it’s also a demonstration of sustainability, thanks to Tetra Pak East Africa once again serving as the official hydration partner.
Scheduled for Sunday, October 26, the marathon Kenya’s only World Athletics Road Race Label-certified event will have more than 30,000 runners, including 200 of the world’s finest and tourists from all over the world.
To keep them going, Tetra Pak is making a Sh7 million donation of clean drinking water in biodegradable cartons that support its long-term sustainability goals.
“This partnership isn’t just about keeping runners refreshed,” said Stella Ondimu, Head of Communications, Tetra Pak East Africa. “It’s about championing health, resilience, and sustainability in one of Africa’s most inspiring sporting arenas. We’re proud to hydrate participants while showing that eco-conscious choices can power world-class events.”
Having been initially run in 2003, the Nairobi Marathon is currently one of Africa’s most recognized road events, and it is currently backed by 43 companies, with participants originating from 92 countries.
Standard Chartered has contributed US$1 million to the event, along with KES 103 million worth of sponsorship, highlighting the magnitude of co-operation supporting the race.
Tetra Pak’s involvement goes beyond sponsorship. More than 10 of its employees have also signed up for the race, attesting to the company’s enthusiasm for health and corporate social responsibility.
With a mission to enable the world to eat better food, Tetra Pak uses the marathon as a platform to reiterate its “Protect What’s Good” commitment, not just protecting runners’ health through safe drinking, but also protecting the planet through packaging solutions that are sustainable by nature.
With every water pack being given out, Tetra Pak is demonstrating that responsibility and innovation can go together, fueling perseverance with a lighter environmental footprint.
