The Ministry of Education has launched a second phase of grade 10 placement review. This gives parents and guardians a second chance to ask for placement of their children in senior schools.
The review has been initiated based on complaints from parents and other stakeholders regarding placement of learners to senior schools based on the Competency-Based Curriculum.
Education Cabinet Secretary, Julius Ogamba, has said that the revision period will occur between January 6 and January 9, 2026, to enable the necessary assessment of the new placement for grade 10 students.
Parents and Learners afforded an Opportunity in Grade 10 Placement Review
“This second review gives parents, guardians, and learners the opportunity to state legitimate and verifiable grounds to reconsider their original and revised placement,” CS Julius Ogamba is quoted to have said in a statement issued on Friday, Jan. 2.
The initial revision of Grade 10 placements was completed on the 29th of December, 2025, and the joining instructions were available on the placement platform for learners who have been placed on the 30th of December. The ministry stated that the second revision of grade 10 placement review would handle learners with genuine reasons while ensuring the efficient use of the school capacity.

Applications for reconsideration by the parents are accepted either through the learner’s junior school or when visiting the senior school of choice personally. The heads of institutions will then submit these applications through the placement online system, and they will be processed through ministry-approved procedures.
CS Ogamba observed that the placement review is a continuum of the transformation process to senior school based on the Competency-Based Curriculum that introduced Grade 10 as the first entry point to senior secondary education.
On the other hand, the Ministry of Education also confirmed the reopening of all basic education institutions for Term One of the 2026 schools calendar on Monday, January 5, 2026. Regional and County Directors of Education have been mandated to supervise the reopening of schools and the adherence to the school calendar.
The ministry called on parents and guardians to adhere to the timelines and use the right channels for Grade 10 placement as a way to ensure a smooth start to the new school year and avoid unnecessary disruptions.
