Nicki Minaj Deportation Petition Surpasses 70,000 Signatures

The “Queen of Rap,” Nicki Minaj, is facing a massive wave of backlash that has now turned into a legal demand. A viral petition on Change.org is calling for the United States government to deport the music icon back to her home country of Trinidad and Tobago.

As of late December 2025, the petition has officially hit a major milestone by passing 60,000 signatures. The movement is growing rapidly as social media users continue to debate the rapper’s recent actions and political choices.

Why are fans signing the petition to deport Nicki Minaj?

The controversy exploded after Nicki Minaj made a surprise appearance at AmericaFest, an event hosted by the conservative group Turning Point USA. During her time on stage, she publicly voiced her support for Donald Trump and JD Vance.

However, it was her specific rhetoric regarding the Vice President-elect that sparked the most outrage. Pointing toward the leadership team, Minaj told the crowd:

“We need a real hitter in the building. JD Vance is a political assassin—he’s coming for everything they said we couldn’t have.”

For many of her long-time supporters, known as the “Barbz,” this move felt like a betrayal. The use of the term “assassin” to praise a political figure was seen by critics as dangerous and inflammatory.

The petition organizers argue that by using such language, Minaj has abandoned the values of the communities that supported her during her rise to fame.

Is Nicki Minaj actually a U.S. Citizen?

A fact that has shocked many people during this drama is that Nicki Minaj is not a U.S. citizen. While she moved to Queens, New York, when she was only five years old, she was born in Saint James, Trinidad and Tobago.

Currently, she is a Permanent Resident (Green Card holder). Despite living and working in America for decades, she has never officially become a naturalized citizen.

In a recent video, Minaj joked that she should be given “honorary citizenship” because of her huge impact on the U.S. music industry and economy.

Can an online petition really get her deported?

The short answer is no. In the United States, a petition—no matter how many signatures it gets—does not have the legal power to deport someone.

According to U.S. Immigration Law, a legal resident can only be removed from the country if they commit a “deportable offense,” such as a violent crime or a serious drug felony.

Although Minaj was detained in Amsterdam earlier this year for a drug-related incident, she was only fined and released.

Since she was not convicted of a major crime, her legal status remains safe. Under the First Amendment, having “unpopular” political opinions is not a legal reason for deportation.

Public Reaction: The Internet is Divided

The situation has split social media into two very different sides:

  1. The Critics: They believe that if she supports “divisive” leaders, she should not enjoy the benefits of living in the U.S. and should return to Trinidad.
  2. The Barbz (Supporters): Her loyal followers call this a “witch hunt.” They argue she is being unfairly attacked for having her own political thoughts as a successful Black woman.

What happens next?

While this petition is a major public relations problem for the rapper, her stay in the U.S. is legally secure. However, the “Queen of Rap” is now facing a massive loyalty test.

With over 60,000 people officially signing against her, the impact on her future music sales and brand deals remains to be seen.
