NCBA Change The Story Initiative Sparks Powerful Renewal for Muhoroni’s Men of Strength

The NCBA Change The Story initiative is shining a fresh light on Muhoroni’s unsung heroes men whose resilience kept the town alive through decades of uncertainty. Through this renewed effort, NCBA is celebrating the strength, sacrifice, and unbreakable spirit that have defined Muhoroni’s journey.

NCBA Change The Story Initiative Uplifts Muhoroni’s Legacy of Resilience

For years, Muhoroni Sugar Company has been the heartbeat of its community. Since 1964, the factory has shaped livelihoods, kept families afloat, and fuelled the local economy. Even during its darkest period 20 years in receivership and five years of employees working without pay the spirit of Muhoroni never faded. It survived because its people refused to surrender.

During its visit, NCBA met one man whose 30-year journey mirrors the factory’s own story: born here, raised here, built a family here, and dedicated his life to serving the company. His is just one of the hundreds of stories that the NCBA Change The Story initiative is helping bring to life stories of quiet courage, loyalty, and the unshakeable belief in a better tomorrow.

Today, with Muhoroni rising again under the Kipchimchim Group, NCBA returned to celebrate the strength of the men who held the line when everything else felt uncertain. This community revival aligns closely with the purpose of the NCBA Change The Story initiative.

As part of International Men’s Day and the broader NCBA Change The Story initiative, powered by NCBA’s KES 100 million annual community investment, the bank honoured 100 of Muhoroni’s longest-serving men. Each received a care pack and a moment of heartfelt recognition for their decades of service.

The Chairman and Managing Director of Muhoroni Sugar Company joined the engagement as NCBA handed over 100 bags symbolic of hope, unity, and belief in a stronger future for every family connected to the factory.

Muhoroni’s enduring workforce is a living reminder of resilience. Their grit reinforces why community support must always be intentional, compassionate, and consistent. Earlier this year, NCBA also marked the International Day for Older Persons, standing with seniors whose wisdom and labour laid the foundations for today’s progress.

Across counties and communities, needs may differ, but the promise remains the same: the NCBA Change The Story initiative will continue to show up, listen, and act in ways that strengthen the social fabric of Kenya.

This is what KES 100 million in annual citizenship investment looks like purposeful action, renewed hope, and a commitment to continue transforming lives through the NCBA Change The Story initiative.
