Ever since Adam Sandler signed his massive deal with Netflix back in 2014, the streaming giant has become the official home of the “Sandler-verse.”
With the recent release of the highly anticipated Happy Gilmore 2, I thought it was the perfect time to sit down and rank the best of the best.
1. Hustle (2022)
If you haven’t seen Hustle yet, stop reading and go watch it. I’m serious. Sandler plays Stanley Sugerman, a weary NBA scout who finds a “diamond in the rough” on the streets of Spain. It’s not just a “sports movie”.
it’s a story about grit and redemption. Sandler brings an emotional weight to this role that feels incredibly grounded. Plus, the cameos from real NBA stars make it a must-watch for basketball fans.
2. Uncut Gems (2019)
Note: Availability varies by region, but it remains a staple of the Netflix international catalog. This is the movie that proved to the world that Adam Sandler is a powerhouse actor.
Playing Howard Ratner, a charismatic New York City jeweler with a gambling addiction, Sandler delivers a performance that is basically a two-hour panic attack.
It’s loud, stressful, and absolutely brilliant. It’s the furthest thing from Billy Madison, and I love it for that.
3. Jay Kelly (2025)
This is the big one for 2025. Directed by Noah Baumbach, it pairs Sandler with George Clooney in a “meta” drama about an aging movie star and his loyal manager.
Sandler plays Ron, the manager who has spent his life in the shadow of a legend. It’s a quiet, heartbreaking, and funny performance that has both of them in the thick of the Oscar conversation right now. If you liked The Meyerowitz Stories, you’ll love this.
4. Happy Gilmore 2 (2025)
The legend returned! I’ll admit I was nervous about a sequel 30 years later, but Happy Gilmore 2 totally nailed the nostalgia. Seeing an older, slightly grumpier Happy navigate the modern world of pro golf—while still dealing with Shooter McGavin—was exactly the comfort food I needed.
It stays true to the spirit of the original while adding that “elder statesman” charm Sandler has perfected lately.
5. The Meyerowitz Stories (New and Selected) (2017)
Sandler at his most “indie.” He plays Danny, the overlooked son of a prickly artist (played by Dustin Hoffman). The dialogue is snappy, the family dynamics are painfully relatable, and Sandler’s chemistry with Ben Stiller is top-notch. If you like smart, character-driven dramedies, this is your winner.
6. Murder Mystery 1 & 2 (2019/2023)
I’m grouping these together because they are the ultimate “Friday night with popcorn” movies. Sandler and Jennifer Aniston have incredible comedic chemistry.
They play a married couple who constantly find themselves framed for murder while on vacation. They are fast-paced, funny, and don’t take themselves too seriously.
7. Leo (2023)
Who knew a 74-year-old lizard could be so relatable? This animated musical was a massive hit for a reason. Sandler voices Leo, a class pet who discovers he only has a year to live and starts giving life advice to the students. It’s surprisingly heartfelt and genuinely funny for adults.
8. You Are So Not Invited to My Bat Mitzvah (2023)
This was a family affair! Sandler takes a supporting role here, letting his real-life daughter Sunny Sandler take the lead. It’s a modern coming-of-age story that feels fresh and authentic.
I loved seeing “Dad Sandler” in this—he plays the supportive (and occasionally embarrassed) father perfectly.
9. Spaceman (2024)
This one is for the sci-fi lovers. Sandler plays an astronaut on a solo mission to the edge of the solar system who befriends a mysterious creature (voiced by Paul Dano). It’s a quiet, meditative film about loneliness and marriage. It’s definitely “weird” Sandler, but it’s visually stunning and deeply moving.
10. 100% Fresh (2018)
I know this is technically a stand-up special, but it’s filmed so cinematically that it feels like a movie. It captures his musical genius, his weirdness, and ends with a tribute to Chris Farley that will leave you in tears. It’s the perfect summary of why we still love the guy after all these years.
Why Adam Sandler Still Rules Netflix
The “Sandman” has a unique ability to bridge the gap between low-brow comedy and high-stakes drama. Whether he’s making us laugh with a silly voice or making us cry in a spaceship, he always feels like a guy you’d want to grab a beer with.
