The M-PESA Jr. NBA Rift Valley Regional Games are set to take center stage this weekend at Uasin Gishu High School, bringing together 40 teams in an electrifying basketball showdown.
With 480 boys and girls competing, the tournament promises high-energy 5-on-5 games, top-tier talent scouting, and exciting rewards for the winners.
The M-PESA Jr. NBA Rift Valley Regional Games are part of Safaricom’s commitment to youth development through sports and financial literacy.
The winning teams in both the boys’ and girls’ categories will walk away with smartphones and airtime, while
outstanding players will earn a chance to attend the Top 100 elite basketball development camp in April.
Speaking ahead of the tournament, Safaricom CEO Dr. Peter Ndegwa emphasized the broader mission behind the M-PESA Jr. NBA Rift Valley Regional Games, stating that more than 400 young players from Rift Valley will gain essential financial literacy skills alongside their athletic development.
He highlighted the success of previous tournaments in Nairobi and the Coast, reinforcing the importance of such initiatives in nurturing young talent and preparing them for financial independence.
The M-PESA Jr. NBA Rift Valley Regional Games follow last week’s Coast Regional Finals, where Aga Khan Academy and Umoja Junior School from Changamwe emerged victorious. In the Nairobi regionals, held two weeks ago, St. John’s Junior School from Korogocho and Olympic Junior School took top honors.
With Eldoret hosting this weekend’s competition, the tournament will then move to Kisumu before culminating in a National Championship, held in collaboration with the National Secondary School Games.
The M-PESA Jr. NBA Rift Valley Regional Games are part of a nationwide effort to provide basketball development and financialliteracy training to over 10,000 boys and girls across Kenya.
More than just a competition, the program is a platform for young athletes to develop their skills while gaining knowledge that will benefit them beyond the court.
With Uasin Gishu High School as the battleground, an unforgettable weekend of skill, strategy, and sportsmanship is expected.
