KCB Storm Into Final After 3-1 Win Over Pipeline in Cairo

KCB Women’s Volleyball Team are through to the final of the CAVB Women’s Club Championship after a 3-1 comeback win over Kenya Pipeline in Cairo.

It was not an easy start for KCB. Pipeline took control early and won the first set 25-16, leaving KCB looking a bit off pace.

But things quickly changed.

KCB bounced back strongly in the second set, tightening their defence and playing with more confidence to take it 25-10 and level the match.

From there, they didn’t look back.

In the third set, setter Esther Mutinda stepped up and guided the team well as KCB took a comfortable 25-15 win. That gave them the momentum they needed going into the fourth set.

KCB kept the pressure on and finished the job with a 25-19 win to seal a place in the final.

Head coach Japheth Munala said the slow start did not worry him too much, as the team managed to adjust in time.

“We did not begin the way we wanted, but the response from the team was outstanding. After the first set, we adjusted tactically, and the players executed the plan very well. This is the mentality we need going into the final.”

Team captain Mercy Moim also praised the team’s reaction after losing the first set.

“Losing the first set was a wake-up call for us. We knew we had to fight harder, communicate better, and stay disciplined. I am proud of how we bounced back as a team and finished strong,” said an ecstatic Mercy Moim.

KCB’s road to the final has been nothing short of dominant, with the bankers topping Pool D after straight-set wins over Nigeria’s Vipers and Partners, Seychelles’ ARSU Ladies, and Cameroon’s Litto Team Volleyball to finish the preliminary stage with maximum points.

In the Round of 16, they dispatched Burundi’s GLC in another emphatic 3-0 victory before brushing aside Mayo Kano Evolution in the quarter-finals to maintain their perfect run in Cairo.
