Huawei ICT Academy introduced a set of nationwide campus activations for the Huawei ICT Competition 2025/2026 with an interactive roadshow at PC Kinyanjui Institute.

The event was initiated at Jitume Lab and attended by the institute’s Deputy Principal for Administration, Mrs. Ruth Muia, and drew more than 150 students.

It also initiated a mentorship campaign that will be extended to universities and TVET institutions in Kenya in the coming weeks.

Huawei seeks to double student participation this year  from 6,000 in last year’s edition to a record 12,000  giving young Kenyans a bigger stage to sharpen ICT skills, get access to globally up-to-standard training, and battle for national, regional, and global competition. Registration is from September to November.

The National Final will take place in December 2025, the Regional Final for South Africa in February 2026, and the Global Final in China in May 2026.

Since its launch in Kenya in 2018, the Huawei ICT Competition has guided and developed over 12,000 students, exposing them to international standards and facilitating the establishment of market-fit skills.

Globally, the program spans 85 nations and has benefited over 950,000 students. Four Tracks for Students to Select From

The 2025/2026 competition has four tracks:

Networking Track: Covers network infrastructure, data communications, and security.

Cloud Track: Covers IoT, artificial intelligence, and cloud.

Computing Track: Covers software, operating systems, and Linux.

Innovation Track: Aims at having students design AI and cloud-based solutions for real problems in sectors like health, finance, and agriculture.

It is free and open for students in universities, colleges, or TVET institutions in Kenya.

At PC Kinyanjui launch, Huawei ICT Academy Manager Michael Kamau highlighted the excitement of the students:

“Seeing the excitement today is proof that Kenya’s youth are ready to take the digital future by storm. With this year’s competition, we look forward to doubling the number of contestants and giving more students access to top-notch training and opportunities.”

Collaboration with Government to Increase ICT Skills

The competition is predicated on a three-year Memorandum of Understanding that was signed in March 2025 between the State Department for TVET (SDTVET) and Huawei.

Under the deal, Huawei will set up 150 ICT Academies in TVET institutions where they will provide training in networking, cybersecurity, cloud computing, and AI.

Each year, Huawei will certify at least 1,000 students at the Huawei Certified ICT Associate (HCIA) level and train 150 trainers through its “Training-the-Trainer” program.

Huawei will further organize job fairs, ICT competitions, and workshops to bring students and jobs together.

SDTVET, on its part, will help select institutions to host Huawei ICT Academies, support national promotion of the certification program, and provide official recognition for the Huawei Certified Instructor Certificate (HCAI) as a teaching ICT standard.

Empowering Women in Technology

Huawei Director of Public Affairs and Head of Women in Tech, Eng. Maureen Mwaniki, encouraged more girls to take part in the competition:

“It is encouraging to see so much energy and drive among the students, and we would appreciate more young women taking up leadership roles in technology.”

Deputy Principal Mrs. Ruth Muia also welcomed the initiative:

“We welcome Huawei for bringing such opportunities to our students. The ICT Competition will sharpen their skills, introduce them to the world, and prepare them for fantastic careers in technology.”

The PC Kinyanjui roadshow is the pilot of a series of September and October campus mentorship events scheduled, setting the stage for nationwide expansion.
