How to Confirm Grade 10 Placement and Transfer Requests

The transition from Junior School to Senior School (Grade 10) is a major milestone. Following the release of the 2025 Kenya Junior School Education Assessment (KJSEA) results.

The Ministry of Education has opened the portal for parents to check where their children have been placed for the 2026 academic year.

This guide simplifies the process into easy-to-follow steps to ensure a smooth transition for your learner.

Step 1: Check the KJSEA Results

Before placement can be confirmed, you must have your child’s assessment results.

  • Online Portal: Access results via the official KNEC KJSEA Portal. You will need the candidate’s Assessment Number and one of their registered names.
  • SMS Service: You can also check results by sending the learner’s Assessment Number to the short code 22263 (charges apply).
  • School Level: Result slips are also available at the Junior School where the student sat for the assessment.

Step 2: Accessing the Grade 10 Placement Portal

The Ministry of Education uses the Kenya Education Management Information System (KEMIS) to manage placements.

  1. Visit the official Grade 10 Placement Platform.
  2. Alternatively, use the KEMIS Selection Portal.
  3. Enter your child’s Assessment Number and the Junior School KNEC Code.
  4. Accept the Data Privacy and Access notice to view the placement outcomes.

Step 3: Confirm Placement and Download the Letter

Once you have logged in and seen the school where your child has been selected, follow these steps:

  1. Verify the Details: Check the school name, the designated Learning Pathway (STEM, Social Sciences, or Arts & Sports Science), and the reporting date.
  2. Download the Admission Letter: Look for the “Download Letter” or “Joining Instructions” button. This document is mandatory for admission.
  3. Print and Stamp: Print a hard copy of the letter. Take it to your child’s Junior School headteacher to be officially stamped for validation.
  4. Check Requirements: The letter will contain a specific list of requirements, fee structures (if applicable), and school-specific rules.

Step 4: Important Dates and Transfers

  • Reporting Date: The Ministry has set Monday, January 12, 2026, as the official reporting date for all Grade 10 learners.
  • Transfer Requests: If you are unsatisfied with the placement, a review window is usually opened. Requests for changes must be made through the head of the current Junior School. Note that approvals are based on the senior school’s capacity and the learner’s chosen pathway.

Important Tips for Parents

  • Avoid Scams: Only use the official links provided below. The Ministry has warned against “agents” who claim they can influence placement for a fee.
  • Prepare Early: Once you have the letter, begin purchasing uniforms and stationery early to avoid the last-minute rush before the January 12th deadline.
  • Validation: A letter is not valid unless it has been officially downloaded from the KEMIS portal and stamped by the previous school head.
