Safaricom has unveiled four new Safaricom Shangwe @25 winners, adding to the excitement around the ongoing consumer promotion that has already changed lives across the country.
Growing List of Safaricom Shangwe @25 Winners
Safaricom on Saturday announced four additional Safaricom Shangwe @25 winners, bringing the total number of millionaires to five since the anniversary promotion kicked off two weeks ago.
The newly named winners; Josephine Waswa (Bungoma), Bernice Mumo (Makueni), Abdi Dahir (Garissa), and Josephat Mwilaria (Athi River) now join 20-year-old Yvonne Wanjiku Kang’ara from Ngeu, Kiambu County, who became the first millionaire in the campaign.
Each of the Safaricom Shangwe @25 winners walks away with KSh1 million, plus an additional KSh250,000 to fund a community project of their choice as part of Safaricom’s 25th anniversary celebrations.
Human Story Behind Each Win
During an award ceremony in Bungoma, 36-year-old sugarcane farmer Josephine Waswa was still coming to terms with her newfound fortune.
“I can’t believe that the KSh19 airtime I bought on M-PESA has made me a millionaire,” she said, adding that she plans to expand her farming business and build a family home. Her community project funds will go toward supplying desks to Kasosi Primary School, where up to six pupils currently share one desk.

For 26-year-old Bernice Mumo, the call from Safaricom came at a defining moment. Fresh out of a cosmetology course and still searching for work, she had only bought airtime and paid for Wi-Fi routine M-PESA transactions that unexpectedly transformed her life.
She plans to use the community support fund to construct and equip a laboratory at Mwalano Dispensary in Mukaa, easing the long distances residents currently travel for medical tests.
In Garissa, 25-year-old Abdi Dahir, a turn boy and the primary breadwinner for his family, said the win lifted a heavy burden.
“Everyone depends on me. I can’t explain how grateful I am,” he said. Abdi hopes to build a house for his mother and support Sangailu Primary School with water tanks and desks.
Meanwhile, 51-year-old businessman Josephat Mwilaria initially dismissed the congratulatory message as a scam, given his past encounters with fraud. He only believed it after walking into a Safaricom shop for verification.
Mwilaria says he runs nearly all his payments through M-PESA due to its convenience and security — a habit that eventually earned him his place among the Safaricom Shangwe @25 winners. He plans to reinvest in his business and support Pillars of Hope Children’s Home through food supplies and school fees.
Promotion Momentum Continues Nationwide
The Shangwe @25 promotion has been rewarding thousands of Kenyans daily with cash prizes, devices, data bundles, and business tools. Each week, more than 800 customers win prizes of KSh10,000, KSh50,000, and KSh100,000, contributing to over 50,000 weekly winners. Safaricom expects more than 5 million customers to win rewards worth KSh250 million before the promotion ends.
Kenyans can participate by transacting on M-PESA, using Bonga Points, paying with M-PESA, buying Safaricom products, or subscribing to services such as Home Fibre. Merchants and M-PESA agents also qualify through Buy Goods, Pochi La Biashara, and transactions above KSh1,000.
To access all M-PESA services, customers can dial *334#.
