KCB Volleyball Club has named its squad for the 2026 Africa Women’s Club Championship, with the team set to leave for Cairo, Egypt on Saturday.
The competition will run from April 11 to 24 and is expected to bring together some of the top clubs across the continent.
KCB will travel with a 14-player squad that includes Mercy Moim, Juliana Namutira, Sharleen Maywa, Deborah Jesang, Belinda Barasa, Mildred Cherop, Pauline Chemtai, Sharon Serem, Lincy Jeruto, Josephine Kataa, Josephine Wafula, Malyne Terry, Esther Mutinda and Fridah Boke.
The team will be led by head coach Japheth Munala, alongside assistant coach David Kinga and technical director Paul Bitok. Other officials in the travelling team include the team manager, doctor and fitness staff.
Speaking during the team’s send-off, KCB said the tournament offers players a good chance to test themselves against strong opposition and fly Kenya’s flag on the continental stage.
The team heads into the competition looking to improve on last year’s performance, where they finished fifth. KCB has previously won the African title twice, in 2006 and 2022, and will be hoping to make another strong run this time.

This year’s tournament will feature 24 teams from across Africa, including top Egyptian sides such as Zamalek SC, Al Ahly SC and Alexandria SC. Kenya will also be represented by Kenya Pipeline Volleyball Club and DCI Volleyball Club.
KCB will be boosted by the return of Esther Mutinda, while Josephine Kataa adds strength in defence. Mildred Cherop is also back in the squad after a stint in the UAE. However, the team will miss captain Edith Wisa, who is unavailable.
Assistant coach David Kinga said the team has prepared well and is ready for the challenge, noting that the players are motivated despite the tough competition expected.
Back home, KCB has been in good form and is also preparing for a Kenya Cup quarter-final match against Kenya Defence Forces Volleyball Team after the continental assignment. In the league standings, the team is currently fourth with 10 points, behind DCI, Post Bank and Kenya Prisons.
