KUCCPS, or the Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service, has announced the revised requirements for 2026 Degree Courses as university intake preparation begins. The new guide provides the minimum subject combinations and grades required for various degree courses.
The requirements are also grouped into clusters, where similar courses are placed in the same group with the same subject requirements.
English or Kiswahili and Mathematics are usually required for most degree courses, but this depends on the course of choice.
Science-related courses, including engineering, medicine, and other related courses, require high grades in subjects including Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, and Biology. For example, engineering courses require at least a C+ in Mathematics and Physics.
On the other hand, courses in the field of business, humanities, communication, and social sciences require more flexibility, where students may be required to choose combinations including Geography, History, Economics, and Religious Studies.
Information Technology, Computer Science, and Statistics require high grades in Mathematics and Physics, with computer studies being an added advantage.
For those pursuing courses in education, the requirements are usually grouped into arts or science courses. In most cases, the subject requirements match the subjects one aspires to teach.
KUCCPS Chief Executive Officer Agnes Mercy Wahome advised students to read the subject requirements for the various degree courses under the cluster system before applying to the respective universities.
