A rare opportunity unfolded for residents of Makueni County when M-PESA Foundation, in partnership with the County Government of Makueni, hold a free medical camp at Unoa Grounds in WoteThe camp attracted residents, most of whom had received notifications via Safaricom SMS.

For many, this camp provided access to crucial medical services like eye care consultations, dental screenings and general doctor consultations they otherwise couldn’t afford.

Among the beneficiaries were Bill Kabuyu and Jane, whose stories highlight the real impact of this initiative.

Bill Kabuyu had been struggling with a urinary condition for over a month. He visited a public hospital but was unable to purchase additional prescribed medication due to financial constraints, leaving his condition untreated.

When he received the Safaricom SMS about the free medical camp, he saw hope.“When I heard about the free medical camp, I came hoping they could treat the condition I’ve been battling for a month now. I had been to another hospital, but I couldn’t afford the extra medicine they prescribed.” Bill Kabuyu stated

At the medical camp, He received treatment, including an injection that eased his pain and a supply of medication for complete recovery.

He also signed up for a free follow-up service.

“The pain is much less now, and I believe I’m on the path to recovery. I’m grateful because the follow-up services here are also free.Thanks to M-PESA Foundation and Makueni County, I believe I won’t have to worry about this condition again.” said Bill

A Clearer Vision and New Hope: Jane’s StoryJane, another beneficiary, had been battling recurring tonsillitis and eye problems for a long time.

Accessing treatment had always been a challenge. However, at the camp, Jane received the care she needed, her tonsils were treated, and she was also provided with glasses to address her eye issues.

“I’ve struggled with tonsils for some time and my eye problem made things worse. But here, I received the treatment I needed and even got glasses. It feels like a fresh start.” she stated.

For Bill, Jane, and many others, the medical camp was more than just a one-day event, it was a life-changing opportunity.

The nature of the services, from follow-ups to specialized care, demonstrated the power of effective partnerships.
