Three once dusty and uneven football grounds in Nairobi have been given a new look after TECNO completed renovation works under its Dream Field initiative.
The three pitches — Kinyago Football Field, Huruma Sports Ground and the Mathare Area 4 ground at Heide Marie Primary School were officially handed over on Wednesday during a ceremony held at Kinyago. Works are still ongoing at a fourth pitch in Mlango Kubwa, Mathare.
According to the company, more than Sh20 million has so far been invested in the Nairobi project.
For years, many of these community grounds were rough, dusty and poorly maintained. Young players trained in difficult conditions, often risking injuries. The recent upgrades have changed that. The fields now have artificial turf and improved natural grass surfaces, new goal posts, seating areas and basic safety enhancements to make them safer and more usable.
TECNO representative Victor Alufwani said the Nairobi renovations are part of a wider commitment to refurbish 100 community football pitches across Africa by 2028. The programme follows the company’s partnership with the Confederation of African Football (CAF).

He said the aim is to support grassroots football and give young people better spaces to train and grow their talent.
Nairobi County Chief Officer for Youth, Talent and Sports Oscar Igaida said quality sports facilities play an important role in keeping young people engaged and focused.
“This is about creating safe spaces for our youth,” he said, noting that proper infrastructure helps promote discipline and teamwork.
On the ground, coaches say the difference is already clear.
“Before the renovation, training was difficult and unsafe. The dusty surface often caused injuries,” said community coach Antony Ombona. “Now the players are motivated. They feel proud to train here.”
The Dream Field initiative is also being implemented in other African countries including Nigeria, Ghana, Egypt, Morocco and South Africa.
TECNO is also a global partner of the CAF Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2025 and 2027, reinforcing its involvement in African football both at grassroots and continental level.
With three pitches complete and one still under renovation, local players in parts of Nairobi now have improved grounds that could shape the next generation of football talent.
