Much-awaited Tujiamini Cheza Dimba match comes to the Nyanza region this Sunday, October 26, at the Raila Odinga Stadium, as SportPesa reaffirms its commitment to fostering grassroots football and emerging talents in Kenya.
Nyanza will be filled with six men’s teams and two ladies’ teams fight for an action-packed day of football, music, and celebratory communal culture.
Pool A of the men’s league will host Awendo FC, Bondo United FC, and Shabana Youth FC, with Pool B hosting Mawego FC, Bobaracho FC, and Sindo Select FC.
The ladies will not be excluded as Masosa Starlets will play Magina Starlets in what promises to be a thrilling encounter.
The men’s category winners will be given Ksh750,000, team kits, and a three-year mentorship, while the best women’s team will also receive Ksh50,000 for their efforts.
There will also be live performances by Nyanza’s own Musa Jakadalla and Odongo Swagg, whose lively performances will shake the stadium.
Talking of the event before it happened, SportPesa Public Relations and Advertising Executive Deborah Maina had this to say of the event before it when it was the tournament that best describes Kenyan football.
“The Nyanza leg caps a lot of what Tujiamini Cheza Dimba is about using sport to inspire, unite and empower individuals,” she said. “SportPesa wishes to offer young players a platform where they can put themselves in the spotlight while investing in their dreams and futures.”
Shabana Youth FC coach Mogire Kepher was hopeful about his team’s future, crediting the tournament with having provided them an opportunity and hope.
“As a youth team, finance has been a big challenge for us. The tournament gives us a real chance for exposure and improvement. To emerge victorious would cushion our difficulties and enable us to focus more on the development of players,” he added.
The Nyanza edition follows closely on the heels of hugely successful Nairobi edition, held earlier this month at the Dandora Stadium, where Dagoretti-based Mseto FC and Ongata Rongai-based Achievers FC were crowned champions.
Since Cheza Dimba relocated to Nyanza, the tournament is fast becoming one of the biggest grassroots sporting movements in Kenya uniting communities, unearthing young stars, and adopting Kenya’s football culture.
