Gilbert Masengeli, the deputy inspector general of police has clarified that indeed there is truth to the story of the arrest of a man with a gun at the Likoni ferry.
While addressing the public in a press conference conducted in Mombasa, Gilbert Masengeli, the deputy inspector general of the country’s police force confirmed that there is truth in the arrest of an individual who was seen with a gun.
According to Masengeli, it became clear that the individual had psychological problems after being examined at a health center after his arrest.
He also went on to say that the gun that he was seen to have in the circulated video is not a real gun.
“The suspect had been taken to the hospital where it was discovered that he had some mental problems. It was also discovered that the gun he had was not a real one, but a fake,” noted Gilbert Masengeli.
The man had been living in the streets and looked disheveled, as he wore torn clothes. He had the fake gun tied around his waist with the use of a rope. He had also been seen having other stuff with him.

Nonetheless, the police stated that there was no room for any mistake here.
“This is because officers are supposed to make sure that everyone is safe. They need to know that what at times appears harmless can become a menace to others later on,” explained Masengeli.
The Coast Regional Police Commander Ali Nuno further revealed that the act captured in the video was one that happened back in October last year contrary to public belief that it took place in March.
But more worrying about this is the fact that there are instances when criminals use the street people to cover up themselves as they commit crimes.
As a result, the police acted with great caution regardless of the state of the suspect.
The suspect now has help and the police remain on their toes dealing with the criminal issue in the region.
