NCBA Backs Top Golfers as PGK Equator Tour Tees Off at Mt. Kipipiri

The third leg of the Professional Golfers of Kenya (PGK) Equator Tour is underway at Mt. Kipipiri Golf & Resort, with 43 professional golfers battling it out for ranking points and bragging rights.

The four-day tournament, which runs until August 17, brings together top corporate-backed players in a bid for tour supremacy. It follows a lively opener at Ruiru Sports Club and a closely fought second leg at Limuru Country Club, where Greg Snow claimed victory with an impressive 276 (-12).

Snow’s strong showing, highlighted by a second-round 65, kept him ahead of runner-up Mohit Mediratta of Safaricom (278, -10) and third-placed Mutahi Kibugu (280, -8).

NCBA’s Edwin Mudanyi finished sixth on 282 (-6), with other regional contenders also posting notable performances.

NCBA Group Managing Director John Gachora said the bank’s continued backing of the sport aims to help Kenyan golfers reach the 2028 Olympics. “Together with other sponsors, we want to see our professionals earn a steady income, train consistently, and ultimately raise the Kenyan flag on the global stage,” he said.

As a key sponsor, NCBA is supporting players including Mudanyi, Erick Ooko, Abraham Galgallo, and Njuguna Ngugi through full tournament entry, training resources, and performance improvement opportunities.

PGK Chairman CJ Wangai noted that consistent, high-level competition was vital for developing champions. “We’re setting them up to win on the world stage, and we appreciate the sponsors making this possible,” he said.

The Equator Tour, launched in mid-2025 as part of PGK’s high-performance programme, is a three-year initiative designed to grow the national golf scene and prepare Kenyan professionals for Los Angeles 2028.
