M-Pesa Foundation Medical Camps Bring Free Healthcare to Over 6,500 in Homa Bay and Busia

More than 6,500 people in Homa Bay and Busia counties have benefited from free medical services, organized by the M-Pesa Foundation in collaboration with county governments, Zuri Health, and Lion Sight First Eye Hospital.

This is part of ongoing initiative by the M-Pesa Foundation, offering range of services including malaria testing and treatment, family planning, and care for chronic conditions such as diabetes, hypertension, and tuberculosis.

In Homa Bay, the camp was held at Onundo Stadium in Mbita, where over 3,100 residents were attended to.

New mothers at Homa Bay County Referral and Suba North Sub-County hospitals were also given Mama Packs essential kits to support maternal and newborn health.

“We believe in taking health services closer to the people. These camps are part of our commitment to improve lives across the country,” said Joseph Ogutu, Chairman of the Safaricom Foundation.

In Busia, a similar camp at Malaba Township Primary School saw over 3,300 residents receive care.

The Foundation also distributed 100 Mama Packs at Teso North Sub-County Hospital.

The Kenya Institute of Special Education (KISE) was present to offer support services to people with disabilities.

In addition, 20 patients from each location were enrolled under the Social Health Authority and awarded a one-year medical cover.

A follow-up care is provided to the patients through a tech-enabled system that allows them to communicate with doctors via SMS and WhatsApp for up to six months.

The M-Pesa Foundation has played a crucial role in healthcare sector since 2023, its medical camps have reached over 160,000 people across 40 counties, providing important health services to underserved communities.
