Students who sat the 2025 KCSE exams are now free to apply for university courses following the launch of the Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service’s placement system.

This was announced by Julius Ogamba, the Education Cabinet Secretary, following a discussion with KUCCPS management team members, including its Chief Executive Officer, Agnes Wahome, on Tuesday.

The CS urged all eligible students to register for their degree course choices via the KUCCPS website. He further stated that the online registration process will take four weeks and will be closed on May 6, 2026.

Students are only qualified to register for degree programs if they attained a grade of C+ in the KCSE examinations.

“This placement cycle has started today, and we have announced that the portal is open until May 6,” Ogamba added

How to apply

Students are required to log into the KUCCPS portal and enter their KCSE index number, year of exam, and a password. The password should be either their KCPE index number or birth certificate number.

Universities and funding

KUCCPS said students can choose from 42 public universities and the Open University of Kenya. Those placed in these institutions will qualify for both government scholarships and loans from the Higher Education Loans Board.

In addition, 30 private universities have also been listed. However, students placed in these institutions will only be eligible for HELB loans and not government scholarships.

Course selection

All degree programs that will be offered in 2024 have been uploaded onto KUCCPS website according to the cut-off points for this year’s candidates.

There are twenty clusters of degree courses depending on their demand, spaces available, and capacity of each university. It is likely that highly competitive courses will have high cut-off points.

Applicants are encouraged to register early and consider their choices of courses very carefully before applying.
