KNEC Reveals Guidelines for 2026 KCSE, KJSEA, and KPSEA Exams

The Ministry of Education has announced the registration dates for Kenya’s 2026 examinations, marking the beginning of a new year of examinations for learners across the country.

The schools will start registering candidates for the KPSEA exams from February 16 to March 16. The KCSE exams will also be registered during the same period, from February 16 to March 31. The KJSEA exams will be registered from March 2 to March 31.

This was revealed by the Education Ministry’s Cabinet Secretary, Julius Ogamba, on Friday, February 13. He stated that KNEC is preparing for the 2026 examination cycle and is ready to start the preparations.

“Schools are required to complete the process within the set dates. Our officials, including KNEC staff, have been given clear instructions on how to proceed with the process so that no child is left out,” he stated.

The CEO of KNEC, Dr. David Njengere, stated that the council has started laying the groundwork in preparation for the examinations so that there are no hiccups during the examination period.

The key steps involved include developing online registration platforms to ease registration for candidates, developing timetables for the exams, disseminating official information to schools, and examining previous cycles to identify areas that require improvement.

Njengere pointed out that a platform is being developed for Grade 10 registration as part of the CBC rollout.

KNEC also raised a concern over how some parents realized that their children were not registered late. The council advised parents to check their children’s registration information to avoid end-of-the-road stress.

To support parents, an SMS verification service is set to be launched in April. The service will allow parents to verify their children’s registration status for the 2026 exams. The parents will also have access to the information during the school break in April to raise any issues with their respective schools.

The Education CS, however, warned school heads that those who provide false information regarding their pupils’ registration status face disciplinary action from the TSC.

With registration now open, schools, parents, and learners are advised to ensure a smooth kickoff to the national exams scheduled for 2026.
