Jipange Cash Advance Boost: Safaricom Unveils Game-Changing Support for Tea Farmers

Safaricom’s DigiFarm platform has launched the new Jipange Cash Advance product, a timely financial lifeline designed to ease cashflow pressures faced by more than one million tea farmers across Kenya. The Jipange Cash Advance facility gives growers quick access to funds before their factory payments are released, helping them better manage daily expenses.

How Jipange Cash Advance Is Transforming Farmer Financing

Developed in partnership with Access Bank and various tea factories, the Jipange Cash Advance aims to address the long-standing challenge of delayed payouts between crop delivery and income disbursement. The focus keyword Jipange Cash Advance appears throughout because the service directly targets a critical financial gap in the agricultural sector.

Tea remains Kenya’s backbone crop, supporting nearly one million smallholder farmers and more than 6.5 million dependants. Despite generating over KSh 200 billion annually, many growers still struggle to meet basic household and farm needs due to inconsistent payment cycles.

Peter Ndegwa, CEO of Safaricom PLC, said the launch of Jipange Cash Advance is about restoring dignity and stability to hardworking farmers.

“Our farmers work tirelessly, yet many still struggle with delayed payments. Jipange Cash Advance will give them peace of mind ensuring they can feed their families, pay school fees and plan ahead,” Ndegwa noted.

Through DigiFarm, the Jipange Cash Advance service enables farmers to receive money instantly via M-PESA, based on the value of their tea deliveries. Repayments are automatically deducted during payout, eliminating the need for collateral while ensuring transparency and convenience.

The pilot phase has already benefited farmers in four Rift Valley tea factories, with DigiFarm now planning to scale Jipange Cash Advance nationwide and extend it to dairy farmers as well.

The product will be available to smallholder tea farmers and dairy co-operatives partnered with DigiFarm. Eligible farmers can activate Jipange Cash Advance immediately by dialing *944# and opting in.
