Huawei DigiTruck Rolls Out Digital Skills Training for Dagoretti North Youth

The Huawei DigiTruck programme for digital skills training officially started at Lavington Girls Secondary School, courtesy of Dagoretti North Member of Parliament Hon. Beatrice Elachi, marking a significant step in expanding technology access and youth empowerment in the constituency.

The initiative, led by Huawei in collaboration with local institutions, provides the youth with practical digital capabilities that open up job opportunities, online business, and innovation.

The program has so far enrolled 250 youths who are currently undergoing practical digital skills training at Lavington Primary School until December 22, 2025. Graduating students will receive certificates and go into an innovation challenge with prizes including laptops, tablets, and smartwatches.

While launching this, Hon. Elachi emphasized how essential digital skills training has increasingly become in shaping the futures of the youth, especially those from the informal settlements.

She said: “Digital skills are no longer a luxury; they are the new foundation of opportunity for our young people. This Huawei DigiTruck programme will ultimately equip our form four leavers with access to jobs, online markets, global networks, and the confidence to compete in an increasingly digital world.

She also referred to growing adoption of digital and green technologies in places like Kawangware-from e-bikes to mobile-based services-emphasizing the need to prepare the youth to become creators and innovators, rather than passive consumers.

Eng. Maureen Mwaniki, Huawei’s Government Relations Director, exhorted the participants to make the most of the opportunity. She observed that the DigiTruck is in high demand across Kenya and that Dagoretti North had been accorded special consideration due to its proximity to Huawei’s offices.

Khadija Mohammed, Director of Communications and Public Affairs at Huawei, said that Huawei is committed to increasing digital inclusion by uplifting underserved communities with sustainable empowerment.

The Huawei DigiTruck initiative falls within the compass of a company-wide global mission to bridge the digital divide, equipping underserved populations with basic ICT skills that will significantly drive economic growth.
