The Higher Education Loans Board (HELB) has issued a warning to Kenyans to be cautious of scammers who claim to offer jobs on its behalf.
In a press statement issued on Thursday, February 12, HELB urged the public unemployed youths especially to be watchful of persons and groups approaching them to offer them job opportunities at the institution.
However, HELB clearly indicated in their notice that they do not employ people through agencies, brokers, or third parties. All of their advertisements are made only through their channels.
“HELB informs the public and all applicants that the loans board does not recruit through the services of any agent or agency,” the statement read.
The board also clarified that it doesn’t charge any recruitment fee. The job seekers shouldn’t pay any money, nor submit any medical reports or unnecessary documents other than what was stipulated in the job advertisement.
HELB issued a warning saying that any person seeking money for the purpose of getting a job or ensuring shortlisting is a fraud and should be reported to the police.
The agency advised Kenyans to avoid engaging with persons who claimed to have an influence on HELB recruitment and were demanding money or some favors in return.
“The public is advised to be alert and avoid dealing with individuals or organizations claiming to be associated with HELB in exchange for employment,” the board cautioned.
For authoritative information, or if they suspect something, they could contact HELB through several verified means of communication, including the phone number and email.
“All official communications from HELB are sent only via authentic communication channels. For any inquiries, you can reach us at +254 711 052 000 or contactcentre@helb.co.ke,” read the announcement.
This is a warning as scammers take advantage of the desperation of job hunters by offering non-existent job opportunities.
In reaffirming its commitment, HELB emphasized its commitment towards fair, transparent, and merit-based recruitment, urging Kenyans to remain vigilant, reporting any suspicious recruitment activities.
