EndFemicideKE Protest Sexual Violence response came swiftly after troubling reports surfaced of rape and sexual assault during peaceful demonstrations across Kenya this week.
The women’s rights group, known for its strong stance against gender-based violence, issued a statement Thursday night condemning the alleged attacks, which were reported in Nairobi and other regions.
“This wasn’t random,” the group stated. “There were warnings. Media reports had already exposed a disturbing plan involving state-backed groups aiming to use GBV as a tool of fear specifically targeting women.”
EndFemicideKE described the attacks as cruel, calculated, and politically driven, insisting that sexual violence should never be dismissed as a side effect of civil unrest.
“These are direct attacks on women’s rights and on the basic right to protest safely,” the statement said.
The group urged any survivors to seek help, offering contacts to support services including the 1195 GBV hotline, Usikimye, and the Wangu Kanja Foundation.
“To any survivor: you are not alone please reach out for support via helplines such as 1195, Usikimye, or the Wangu Kanja Foundation”. the group affirmed.
The organisation pledged to walk with survivors, continue the fight for justice, stating that such violence is a direct attack on the right to protest and exist safely
