KCB RFC is set to renew its fierce rivalry with Kabras Sugar in the Enterprise Cup semi-final clash at the ASK Showground, Kakamega, on Saturday.
The five-time Enterprise Cup champions, KCB RFC, are determined to avenge last weekend’s 25-17 loss to the sugar millers in the Kenya Cup. The last time these two teams met in the Enterprise Cup final, Kabras claimed victory with a 32-20 win.
KCB RFC head coach Oliver Mang’eni is confident in his squad’s ability to reclaim their dominance. Reflecting on last weekend’s match, he emphasized that the team has made significant tactical improvements.
“In a short period of time, we have made drastic changes and improvements in the squad. Last weekend’s display from the boys was encouraging. Our game plan is working, and our tactical approach is proving worthy. We want to continue playing like this and hopefully, take KCB RFC back to where it belongs—winning titles,” said Mang’eni during a training session at KCB Sports Club, Ruaraka.
The Enterprise Cup has eluded KCB RFC for the past seven years, with their last triumph coming in 2017. The club also secured victories in 2004, 2007, 2015, and 2016.
A win this weekend would not only bring KCB RFC closer to the title but also serve as a major milestone for Mang’eni, who recently took over from long-serving coach Curtis Olago.
KCB RFC captain Jacob Ojee expressed optimism ahead of the crucial match:
“I am happy with the boys, who have shown great hunger for titles this year. Together with the technical bench, we are working hard to win silverware. The young blood in the squad have added a new dimension to the team, and I hope we will clinch titles at the end of the season.”
Isaac Njoroge is expected to start at the back after his impressive performances in recent Kenya Cup matches.
KCB RFCwill also rely on key players such as Austin Sikutwa, Emmanuel Opondo, Laban Kipsang, Andycole Omolo, Wilhite Mususi, Griffin Musila, Emmanuel Silungi, and Nick Okullo.
However, Tyson Maina, a crucial player for KCB RFC, will miss the match due to a concussion suffered in the previous fixture.
