Daikin, the maker of air conditioners, has opened a new office in Nairobi in its move to grow its business in Africa and fight for market domination.

The office, which is on the 8th floor of One Africa Place in Westlands, will also be a showroom as well as an office where customers can see the new cooling systems and energy-saving products from the company.

The relocation reflects Daikin’s growing interest in Africa, where the demand for smart and efficient air-conditioning is growing as there is rapid urbanization.

At the launch, Daikin India Chairman and Managing Director KJ Jawa revealed that the Nairobi hub will play a significant role in customer support and marketing.

“Africa is our next growth story,” he said. “This office will enable us to be closer to customers, increase our dealer base, and build long-term relationships. It’s not about selling units, it’s about solutions that are appropriate for Africa’s needs.”.

Junichi Omori, General Manager, Daikin’s Global Operations Division, averred the company is considering Africa as a “multi-billion-dollar opportunity” in the short to medium term.

“Increased housing development, enhanced infrastructure, and the rise in the need for cooling make the time right,” he added. “We will launch Africa-specific products and expand dealer points to capitalize on this momentum.”

The new facility will also provide space for training and after-sales support in the region. Daikin asserts it is making an investment in marketing and customer awareness to be Africa’s number one AC brand in three years’ time.
