Busia Woman Claims to Be Virgin Mary and she’s drawing crowds who believe in her power to heal.
Judith Nafula, a resident of Nangoma village in Busia County, has caused a stir after publicly declaring that she is Mary, the mother of Jesus, in human form.
Nafula, a former devout Catholic from Matayos constituency, claims her identity was revealed to her during a supernatural encounter.
“A light came down from heaven, and in it stood Jesus,” she told local media. “He asked me where Mother Mary was, then told me it was me.”
Following this vision, the Busia woman who claims to be Virgin Mary says she retreated to a nearby hill for two months, where she says she spoke daily with the Holy Spirit.
Her husband, John Wekullo, has also embraced the spiritual calling, claiming he was revealed to be Joseph, Mary’s biblical husband.
But her newfound faith has not come without cost. Nafula says she was expelled from her local church after she began performing what some locals now call “miracles.” She shared, “They said I was mad and threw me out.”
Despite church rejection, her home has become a destination for those seeking divine intervention. Locals report miraculous healings, including pregnancies among women previously considered infertile. “She prays for people, and we’ve seen results,” said her sister-in-law.
While some see her as a spiritual leader, others express skepticism. Religious leaders and mental health experts have warned against blind belief, suggesting such claims need deeper scrutiny.
