The Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) has issued a statement warning the public against a false notice circulating on social media that purportedly gives dates for the reopening of TTCs and exam dates.
The notice, which has been widely shared on social media, states that all TTCs will reopen on April 15 and that second-year exams will begin in early May. It also claims the exams will be done using printed papers, with rehearsals set for May 1.
However, KNEC dismissed the information saying it was not authentic.
In its statement, the examination council stated that the information contained in the notice did not correspond with the academic and examination calendars for teacher training colleges.
According to the statement, KNEC has never communicated the reopening of TTCs in April nor the scheduling of exams for May.
Additionally, it has been found that the teacher trainees’ exams usually take place much later in the year, mainly in November or December.
The council also added that it does not dictate the reopening dates for TTCs. They are usually determined by the individual TTCs but following the Ministry of Education guidelines.
In light of this, KNEC is now calling on the students, tutors, and the general public to use only trusted information platforms like official websites or notices from the body to ensure that they do not receive any misleading information.
This was just weeks after the council made an announcement regarding the issuance of various teacher training certificates.
The following list includes some of the diplomas that have been issued: Diplomas in Early Childhood Teacher Education (DECTE) and Diploma in Primary Teacher Education (DPTE) for students graduating in 2022 and diploma upgrade for 2023.
Others that have been issued include ECDE, Diploma in Teacher Education (DTE), Special Needs Education (SNE), and Primary Teacher Education (PTE) diplomas for students graduating in 2025.
The council indicated that the certificates had been dispatched to Sub-County Education Offices.
