X Develops New Feature That Allows Location Filter

Social platform X is officially bringing back the country filter, months after it went missing following the initial rollout.

It shows you the country where the account you’re looking at has posted from. In short, it helps people gauge where content is coming from and chase the conversations that matter most to your region.

To do so, you click on an account’s join date, then click on “About this account.” The country from which the post originates is located on that page, and this method typically relies on IP addresses, which guarantees its accuracy.

The country reveal was initially introduced on the site on November 22, 2025. The introduction of the country reveal earned positive reactions from many users, who were looking forward to the transparency of the site, especially during the heightened political atmosphere.

However, the feature was not sustainable, and within hours of the release, users began to report errors; accounts showing countries they had never visited. Because of the technical glitch, the feature was immediately withdrawn to the disappointment of many users.

Back then, the head of product for X, Nikita Bier, sought to clarify how this feature works by testing it on his own account.

The company has not stated why it was replaced so quickly, nor what modifications it made before relaunching.

With the feature back, there are hopes that the previous glitches will be fixed. The feature, for example, could help cut down on confusion about the origins of posts and make timelines more precise or location-oriented.

However, up to this point, X hasn’t released an official statement concerning the relaunch. Meanwhile, the testers are using the software to test its improvement.
