Safaricom and NSE Launch Ziidi Trader on M-PESA

Safaricom has teamed up with the Nairobi Securities Exchange (NSE) to roll out Ziidi Trader, a new service on the M-PESA app that allows Kenyans to buy and sell company shares straight from their phones.

The platform, launched on 10th February 2026, is set to make investing in the stock market easier for ordinary Kenyans. Instead of going through long processes, users can now trade NSE-listed shares using a simple and secure mobile experience many already know through M-PESA.

This move is a big step in opening up Kenya’s capital markets to more people and improving financial wellness. By using M-PESA’s wide reach, Safaricom and NSE are bringing investment opportunities closer to millions of Kenyans.

Ziidi Trader works under the supervision of the Capital Markets Authority (CMA). This means there are rules in place to protect investors, ensure transparency, and keep the market fair. The platform also supports long-term investing by giving users clear information and investor education.

The launch is part of Safaricom’s wider journey to support savings and investment. It started with Ziidi Money Market Fund (MMF), which encouraged people to save and invest regularly, then Ziidi Shariah, which offers Shariah-compliant options. Now, Ziidi Trader adds stock market investing to the list, all in a fully digital and secure way.

Safaricom CEO Peter Ndegwa said the new service is about giving more people a chance to grow their wealth.

“Ziidi Trader is a powerful step in democratizing wealth for our customers. For eighteen years, M-PESA has transformed how Kenyans live, work and do business. Today, in partnership with the NSE, we are extending that impact to how our customers build and grow their wealth. Our ambition is to be a trusted partner in powering digital lifestyles, making investing simple, convenient and accessible to everyone, everywhere,” he said.

Through Ziidi Trader, users can buy and sell shares, track their investments, and get market insights all within the M-PESA app. The idea is to make the whole investment journey smooth and less intimidating.

NSE CEO Frank Mwiti said the partnership helps bring the stock market closer to the people.

“Partnering with Safaricom is helping us bring the stock market closer to everyday Kenyans. By making NSE trading available through M-PESA, we are making it easier for more people, both locally and abroad, to invest and play an active role in Kenya’s economic growth,” he said.

The platform also allows customers to invest in corporate bonds, giving them more options to grow and diversify their investments.

To start, M-PESA users can find Ziidi Trader under the Financial Services tab on the app. After accepting the terms and conditions, they can begin investing from as little as one share.

Ziidi Trader supports Safaricom’s push for more smartphone use and digital services, while also helping the NSE modernize how people access the market and learn about investing. The two institutions say the platform will continue to grow and may include more players from the investment space in future.

Now live on the M-PESA app, Ziidi Trader offers Kenyans a modern, reliable and fully digital way to take part in the country’s economic growth and start building long-term wealth with confidence.
