Three Teams to Represent Kenya at Cannes Lions Festival in France

Three teams of young Kenyan creatives will represent the country at the International Cannes Lions Festival in June 2026 after winning a tough local competition held in Nairobi.

The six creatives earned their slots in the Digital, Film and Design categories during the second edition of the Cannes Young Lions Kenya competition. The winners are Digital duo Kinjal Shekh and Muskaan Shaikh, Film entrants Michelle Shingi and Nidhi Buty, and Design pair Gichimu Ikua and Victor Mureithi.

The three-day competition took place from February 6 to 8 at the Tusker Microbrewery and brought together 42 young creatives from across the country. Participants were tested on how well they could think fast, work under pressure and come up with bold and original ideas.

Speaking after the win, Design category winner Victor Mureithi said the experience was both emotional and rewarding.

“Winning this competition means a lot to me. It shows that believing in your ideas and putting in the work really counts. I’m proud to represent Kenya and carry our flag to the Cannes Lions Festival in France,” he said.

Safaricom, one of the key partners, said the competition plays an important role in shaping the future of Kenya’s creative industry.

“At Safaricom, we believe young creatives are key to Kenya’s digital future. Young Lions Kenya gives them a chance to collaborate, think differently and compete on a global stage,” said Zizwe Awuor, Head of Brand and Marketing at Safaricom PLC.

The event was supported by several partners, including EABL, MB 96 and The Quollective, who helped make the competition a success.

Kenya Breweries Limited Managing Director Andrew Kilonzo said Tusker was proud to back the initiative and support young creatives as they prepare to represent the country globally.

“This platform allows Kenyan creatives to tell their stories and showcase our culture and creativity to the world,” he said.

The Quollective also emphasised the importance of creating space for local talent to grow.

“Partnering with Young Lions Kenya allows us to support creative talent through collaboration, mentorship and real opportunities,” said Emuron Alemu, Chief Creative Officer at The Quollective.
