As Safaricom at 25 marked a major milestone, the Chief Executive, Dr. Peter Ndegwa, reflected on a half-year of progress focused on service, innovation, and supporting communities.
Speaking during the Silver Jubilee celebrations, he said the initiatives are meant to bring value, uplift homes, and enhance education across Kenya.
“Our Silver Jubilee is not just about the past; it is a commitment towards the future,” Dr. Ndegwa said. “With initiatives such as Shangwe @25, the Green Box, and Citizens of the Future, Safaricom at 25 years remains committed to delivering value, strengthening communities, and shaping education for generations to come.”

Major growth includes surpassing 50 million customers in Kenya and more than 10 million active users in Ethiopia. These milestones are a reflection that Safaricom is a growing ecosystem with responsibility for the continuous improvement of the customer experience across both markets.
AI and Fintech at the Core of Safaricom at 25
Dr. Ndegwa reinforced that artificial intelligence was increasingly underpinning Safaricom’s operations to enhance customer care, security, smart pricing, stability of networks, and fraud prevention. “AI allows us to anticipate what customers want or need and move to create a safer, smarter, and more seamless experience,” he said.
He also pointed out that the company would be rolling out Fintech 2.0, as it builds the next generation of M-PESA and future-ready financial platforms. “Our goal is to make financial services accessible, reliable, and future-proof for all customers,” Dr. Ndegwa added.
Strong Performance in All Sectors
At 25 Safaricom is also seeing solid progress across connectivity, financial services, enterprise solutions, and fixed broadband, although it is confronting a complex operating environment in Ethiopia.
Dr. Ndegwa reaffirmed that these developments were in tune with the company’s Vision 2030 strategy and focused on ensuring sustainable growth and continued impactful community development.
“Reflecting on our journey gives us clarity on how far we have come, and looking ahead keeps us focused on what is next. At Safaricom at 25, our commitment is unwavering: to serve our customers, empower communities, and drive innovation that touches every home,” he concluded.
