LG Launches InstaView Bottom Freezer Fridge in Kenya to Tackle Food Waste and Exorbitant Electricity Bills

LG Electronics East Africa has launched its latest fridge, the LG InstaView Bottom Freezer, as a practical solution to the rising problem of wastage of food and increased electricity bills in Kenyan households.

At the launch in Nairobi, LG East Africa President Donghun Lee said the majority of families across Africa continue to struggle with food waste because of unreliable power supply, high electricity bills, and outdated refrigeration.

“Storage is a principal reason for food loss. More than 40 percent of food in Africa is lost, mainly due to the fact that it cannot be stored. This leaves the continent to eat about half of what it produces,” Lee added.

He explained that the new refrigerator is designed with African families in mind, offering a balance between freshness of food and power consumption. “Fresh food can be kept for up to seven days with this fridge while consuming less energy. That not only saves wastage but also gives maximum value to every shilling spent by families.”

The InstaView Bottom Freezer 349-litre comes with a revolutionary glass door that lights up when knocked to allow consumers to see what’s inside without opening it and allowing cold air to escape.

It also features cooling technology for stable temperatures, a Smart Inverter Compressor for minimized power consumption, and LG ThinQ connectivity, which offers remote monitoring and notifications.

Jane Kariuki, LG East Africa Marketing Head, described the launch as fitting LG’s broader purpose of delivering meaningful innovation.
“Innovation is only worth it if it makes life better. This product brings functionality and sustainability together in a way that addresses specific daily challenges for families,” she explained.

The refrigerator also features the ENERGY STAR rating, making it one of the most efficient and appealing to houses in the urban and rural parts of the country that are susceptible to inconsistent power supply. Its style is also meant to match contemporary kitchens.

The company argues that the new product is well-timed when families desire to extend the life of their groceries in the face of rising food costs and global energy levies.

The LG InstaView Bottom Freezer refrigerator is now available for purchase nationwide at LG/Opalnet brand stores, Hotpoint Appliances, large supermarkets, and other retail stores.
